Join Wild Ones Greater Baltimore for our annual meeting! We will host a social (half!) hour with coffee and bagels and time to browse the selection of native seeds available. The current board will review events the chapter held over the past year and give members a look into the year to come. Afterwards, an election for chapter directors and board members will be held to set the group up for success in 2026.
We are especially excited for our keynote speaker, Nancy Lawson. Nancy Lawson is a nature writer, habitat consultant and author of The Humane Gardener: Nurturing a Backyard Habitat for Wildlife and Wildscape: Trilling Chipmunks, Beckoning Blooms, Salty Butterflies, and Other Sensory Wonders of Nature. She founded Humane Gardener to pioneer creative wildlife-friendly landscaping methods, and she co-chairs Howard County Bee City in Maryland to advocate for native bees. Her work and garden have been featured in Science Magazine, The New York Times, The Washington Post, O magazine, Entomology Today, Ecological Entomology, and numerous podcasts. Her second book, Wildscape, was a finalist for a science writing award from AAAS (the American Association for the Advancement of Science) and received an honorable mention from the American Horticultural Society. Nancy is the wildlife columnist for American Gardener magazine, an honorary director for Wild Ones, and a board member of Patapsco Heritage Greenway. She considers her biggest accomplishment to be making the world a little safer for chipmunks, pokeweed, and other misunderstood creatures, one conversation at a time.
At the event, we will have native plant seeds for all to take home. Guests are welcome to bring native seeds from their gardens to share.
There will also be fun door prizes including a mosquito bucket of doom, Maryland Native Plant Guide and Nancy Lawson’s books.
We are taking this opportunity to give back to the Greater Baltimore community. If able, attendees should bring non-refrigerated/non-frozen food items and hygiene products to donate to the Maryland Food Bank. Please make sure any donations are sealed and non-expired. As the seasons grow colder and our gardens fall into winter slumber, our community becomes even more important. Read more about the food bank's most needed items here: https://mdfoodbank.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/most-needed-items.pdf.
We ask that you please RSVP for the event ahead of time so that we can provide enough food for everyone. Members will be given the opportunity to register first and if space is available, registration will open to nonmembers.
