Come and see this property to appreciate how Mother Nature has done most of the work on Rujuta and Rahul's front and back yards!
This property has been acknowledged as winners of the Green Towson Alliance native garden contest 2024 and featured in a Nuts for Natives blog.
Featuring a rain garden set up with the help of GVC and University of Maryland, a water feature in the back yard that uses oxygenating plants to maintain organic balance, and a native front yard built and featured on 'Kill Your Lawn' Maryland Chapter on Earth FX - there is a lot to explore on these small (0.3 acre lot) urban native centric yards.
There is a focus on conserving rainwater in woodchip filled lanes that are walkways between native plant rows that sustain the plants and have reduced watering needs by over 80% spring through summer.
Some notable plants include: swamp milkweed (Asclepias incarnata), butterfly weed (Asclepias tuberosa), northern sea oats (Chasmanthium latifolium), mountain mint (Pycanthemum muticum), New York ironweed (Vernonia novaboracensis), cutleaf coneflower (Rudbeckia laciniata), lobelia (Lobelia siphilitica), blue vervain (Verbena hastata), and so many more.
Wild Ones Greater Baltimore 2026 garden tours are generously offered by local residents. While the focus of the tour will be on native plants, all of the gardens will include some non-natives and many will have invasives or other issues the owners are battling. Expect these tours to be an opportunity to enjoy beautiful gardens while learning about the joys and challenges of starting and maintaining a biodiverse ecosystem.
This is a guided tour beginning at 11am and lasting for about one hour.
Event address at a private residence (Lutherville, 21093) and additional details will be provided upon registration.
